Listen closer, Sirens is GOOD
listen to the end of sirens and it's probably the most interesting thing the band did musically this show. There is a 3 minute jam out of sirens and into Colorado Bluebird Sky. It is a thing of beauty. Billy leading the way.
Way that it goes was another highlight. Pretty good Kyle song & Rosie has some potential.
I agree about EOTO style taking over Joyful Sound, it's kind of predictable and weird and i'm not sure it fits with that tune, maybe a few minutes somewhere else in the music... but i miss the searing kang solo at the end of joyful sound.
Overall pretty solid show, nothing bad, nothing blowing you out of the water, but it is a good listen, good festival set. Excited to hear the shows from Electric Forest, pretty good from what people tell me. Hope to catch the boys in the south east this fall.

I understand that "you had to be there" to appreciate this show, but agree with a lot of comments already here. This is definitely not a show I will listen to over and over again. I guess that could be due to it being a late night show at Bonnaroo and I think they catered to the time and crowd. I'd love to see a tour again because I think it will allow them to explore some new things and get even tighter. I disagree that they aren't playing tight because with the exception of night #1 at Red Rocks last year, they have been pretty on. I was at Red Rocks last year and night #2 was the heat. They were clicking on all cylinders and definitely agree that Winter Carnival was great. I expect that Electric Forest will be insane and the second night beyond comprehendible.
With all that said, I also agree that I am starting to not like Sirens - and even more so, Joyful Sound. I've watched the video of the boys dancing at Bonnaroo and it's funny to see, but the Eoto jam during it is too predictable and the same thing every time. I just don't see the "joy" in that song anymore.
Like I said, I'd love to see a tour, but I don't think it's going to happen any time soon. I definitely don't think I'll be catching them at festivals any more, but I know plenty of people enjoy that atmosphere so get your grooves on - I won't rain on your parade. Enjoy some fungus for me and dance until you've spun around the wheel of life.

Savor these scattered Cheese shows, never know what the future holds
Thank you!! SCI is slacking with the soundboard release but it sounds like it was an amazing time! I've read many posts of it being the best set at Bonnaroo 2011, no surprise there :D
Upon actually listening... I must agree with MikesGroover. Listened to the livecheese.com SBDs too and this show is really lack luster without having the eye candy to remember it by (I was not at Bonnaroo).
But I must disagree in that this band has hit peaks outside of 98-02 and I think Winter Carnival was testament - I was not there and the SBD recordings suck for it but the boys were on. I was at all three nights at Red Rocks last summer and I'd say nights 2 and 3 were pretty damn good (night 2 especially). That being said I hope they start touring again, and I wish they would keep the dubstep exclusive to EOTO - I once enjoyed Sirens, now I dread it (not really but you know...).

This show was the perfect end to a long day of great music and dancing with 80,000 fellow music lovers.
This show was full of highlights. All the jams were tight and amazing.
'Tennessee Jed' was a great choice for an opener.
Half way through 'Joyful Sound,' Keith, Michael, Bill and Kyle left the stage. They returned in matching orange pants and white shirts. They did a poorly choreographed dance while Jason rapped. It was absolutely hilarious! (Hence the 'Who the fuck was that?' to start Miss Brown's).
During Miss Brown's Teahouse, a gigantic inflatable Tyrannosaurus Rex started wandering around the crowd on the right. From the left side of the stage, a gigantic ball of white balloon-like objects came floating over the crowd. Once directly over the crowd, it became clear that the cocoon-like thing under the balloons had a person in it. Slowly, this cocoon opened up to reveal a human-sized butterfly (or moth). The man-size insect dropped glittery stuff on the crowd, then he descended to the ground. He picked up a huge torch and was raised back above the crowd as the jam ended.
The jams kept coming (except for maybe Colorado Bluebird Sky). The energy was high for 3:30 a.m. and the band responded with excellent jams. This and the Widespread sets were definitely the best set I saw at Bonnaroo.

Probably had to be there
A late night festival set by the Cheese means there's going to be atomospherics and interesting eye candy. I'm sure it was a great time for those in attendance. Unfortunately, there's not much going on here musically that would make me want to return for repeated listens.
The covers are well-executed, especially the closing jam of Mysterious Ways, and there's plenty of danceable stuff in the Bumpin Reel and Rollover. But the Colorado Bluebird Sky (a beautiful tune) seems out of place and Joyful Sound is ruined by the guest rapper. Texas isn't bad, but there's many better versions out there. Unless this band hits the road full-time again, they're never going to touch the peaks they were reaching from 98-02.

This show is lookin and sounding pretty damn crazy. they have to get their act together and go on a 2 year tour, constantly.
But this show will have to do until then, and i am ok with that cause its a good show!
